This coffee comes from the Worka Chelbessa kebele, or village, in the Gedeb district of the Gedeo zone, one of the most renowned coffee regions in Ethiopia. The coffee is grown by smallholder farmers at an altitude of 1900-2200 meters above sea level, and processed at a wet mill operated by Negusse Debela, a local entrepreneur who strives to improve the quality and sustainability of his coffees.
The coffee is made from JARC selections and local landraces, which are indigenous varieties of coffee that have adapted to the unique terroir of Yirgacheffe. The coffee is washed, meaning that the pulp and mucilage are removed from the beans before drying, resulting in a clean and bright cup profile. The coffee is then dried on raised beds for about 10 days, allowing for even and gentle drying.
The cupping notes of this coffee are lemon, berry, and floral, reflecting the rich and diverse flavors of Yirgacheffe. This coffee is certified organic, meaning that it is grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides, and that it meets the standards of organic agriculture.
This coffee is a perfect choice for those who appreciate the complexity and elegance of Ethiopian coffees, and who want to support the organic and sustainable practices of the farmers and processors. Enjoy this coffee as a filter brew, or as a light and refreshing espresso.
